Clash of the Titans
This film looks amazing and I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

I am old enough to remember the original Clash of the Titans from the Eighties. I have both good and bad memories of the day my dad took my brother and me to see it one Sunday afternoon. My parents had just divorced and Dad used to take us out at weekends (not that often though). Great movie, but brother and me were a bit depressed about our situation at the time. But it's so long ago now...

Here's a clip from the original 1981 movie.

(videos borrowed from YouTube)

In the 2010 remake I'm also looking forward to seeing the gorgeous Hans Matheson (Dr Zhivago, Nero). But it looks as if he only has a small role in it (shame).

Clash of the Titans!
Seems we have a real life "Clash of the Titans" brewing!

Just a few weeks ago we had news that Hugo Chavez of Venezuela was attempting to regulate the Internet and make it part of his government propaganda machine, but there is a much bigger battle looming kids!

Those two giants, China and Google, are at each others throats and it could get ugly!

China wants to control the Internet, (And therefore Google) like it controls everything else!

Google, like any good free market enterprise, says; "keep yer paws off!"

Then, to make their point, (and remember, you don't have to have a point to make a point) they transferred their head office from China to Hong Kong, which still has a certain amount of autonomy!

Is this going to solve the problem folks?

Not on your life!

According to Alexa Oelson of The Associated Press, and confirmed by our own "Perspective Research Department;"

By challenging the often tetchy government, Google appears to have violated an unspoken rule of doing business in China, especially in the Internet industry - whose control Beijing sees as crucial to maintaining its authoritarian rule.

"Everybody in the Internet space operates under the good graces of the government, and if the government's not happy with your partner, you probably are going to have to change," said T.R. Harrington, founder and CEO of Shanghai-based Darwin Marketing, which specializes in advertising for China's search engine market.

While we here in the West go by the rule "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature," over there the rule is a little different.........!

Don't f**k with the government!

A high-profile Communist Party newspaper skewered Google in a front-page story. And more of its partners and advertising customers in the country appeared to be distancing themselves from the company. China's second-biggest mobile phone company is scrapping plans to use Google's search function on two new phones, while the country's most popular Internet portal is reviewing its partnership with Google, executives said Thursday.

On the surface it might seem to be a clash of the titans that nobody can win, but in reality the government holds all the aces!

And if things get too rank, all that Google can do is cut and run!

Clash of the Titans?
The trends of Summer '09 are back with a made-to-order twist. Fringes, embellishment, fabric, buckles and booties ...are now conveniently located on your favorite new ancient sandal style. That's right: gladiators are back and stronger than ever.

Glads are a Spring must-have for every shoenista. They are comfortable, versatile and stylish. From sundress to casual suits, from day to night, whatever your style for the moment, the day or the foreseeable future, we've got gladiators to pull off your look.

For Spring/Summer 2010 we're rolling back the clock to, oh, say, 45 BCE. Caesar's hanging around the Rubicon, those darned Gauls and Germans are acting up (again) and like usual the Appian Way is just a logjam at rush hour. Italian-made gladiator boots like the Janet and Janet 25025 (below) are perfect for urban trendsetters or the Praetorian Guard.

Not all of us are ready for a scrap; some of us are lovers. Like most art forms Roman, the original is Greek. We're happy Sam Edelman can channel this with the Damian (left) and Hazel. It's Clash of the Titans meets Sex in the City with Sam's jewel-embellished gladiator booties. Expect forward top detail like steel loops, crystal grommets, side buckles and polished stones. Try it by day with a casual suit or by night with skinny jeans and sequin top (of course, always fetching with an easy, everyday chiton).

Some of us are just a tad more patrician. For the Senatorial class, we've got Glammed Glads for shiny, classic, powerful fun. Boutique 9's Promised is an example of a classic thin, super-strapped glad. Even with zipper hardware and metallic shine, it is a cool Spring sandal, perfect for a trip to the Aegean. Spark up a basic black dress, but be sure not to overpower the shoe with accessories. Let the Promised be your statement piece.

We all know if it's not about bread, it's about circuses. So send in the clowns! Colorful, bold and sassy gladiators have fringes and rich hues. This is what makes Industry SLS10-81GB so hot. Need we say more? Yes? OK! This Spring is all about colors: bold, rich and bright. Add a little fringe, some fabric and voil : a boho-chic piece. Mix and match with other bold colors for pop or pair with a neutral outfit to make your shoe the star of the show.

Those Romans. Always incorporating from the countries they conquered! Especially those pesky Germanic tribes. Put some rebel in your gladiator look with this recipe: scarlet red lipstick, harem pants, Rachel Roy draped harem tank and Goth Glads. Very Gypsy, very Euro for our risk taker fashionistas. Dolce Vita Neve are studded, zipped and slimming for any foot.

So: what Style are you?

CLASH OF THE TITANS 2010
I can't wait to see the new Clash of the Titans. It was one of my favourite film when I was a little kid. I was so amazed with the stop motion animation of Ray Harryhausen. Back then that technology was considered very advanced. Greek mythology is my one of my fascinations and any movie that deals with that subject has already my money, although I was greatly disappointed by "Troy". Where were the Olympus gods and goddesses?

With the 3D technology I'm sure the remake of "Clash Of The Titans" will be more entertaining to watch on the big screen. Also additional A+ for the remake for casting Russian supermodel as Medusa. Which I believe really make sense because according to story by Ovid Medusa was originally a beautiful maiden who bedded the god of the sea Poseidon in Athena's temple. Enraged by such disrespectful act Athena transformed Medusa her hair to serpents and gave her a face that would turn anyone to stone just the mere sight of it.

Here is the version of Medusa in 1981 "Clash of The Titans". They just used an animation.

But I wished Sam Worthington sported a longer hair like Harry Hamlin. He would have resembled more the ancient sculpture of Perseus. The buzz cut made him look so modern.

CLASH Of The Dimensions: TITANS Clip disappointing
Jim here. I wish I had better news for you - I really do. Being a 3D advocate is not easy at times and this is one of them.

I saw select scenes from CLASH OF THE TITANS and I was quite dismayed at what I saw. All in all it was about 8 minutes. Keep in mind that this presentation was made in front of theater owners - the ones who make the decision on how to promote movies at the local level.

We know that Warner Bros. decided to go with a rush job of converting the movie to 3D in post. Turns out, it seems it was a bad idea. While many theater goers may not notice the things that I notice, there were serious problems with what I saw.

1. Flat backgrounds: During several scenes when examining the far distance it was as if it were simply painted on a matte while other objects in the foreground popped. I shook my head every time I saw it.

2. Distortion / Blurriness: Quite often, especially in the action sequences (which was most of the clip) objects were very blurry and distorted. It was horrible. I have no other word for it.

3. Ghosting: Yes, there was a lot of ghosting in the scenes, some worse then others. There is no excuse for this for this type of screening. I will say that there is a possibility that the ghosting was due to the 3D projection being used. In this case, it was Dolby 3D.

So, bottomline - should you go see this movie? Yes. In 2D. Will it be better in 3D? My estimation at this time is no. I will be seeing it in both formats and I will let you know when I do. I found their attempt at 3D very distracting and this is EXACTLY what we do not want at this time. A lackadaisical attempt at a hurried 3D solution.

C'mon guys. You know better than this. What did you expect? I can see Warners being sucked into the demo reels of the conversion company which were probably pretty darn good. Even the test reels for TITANS was probably excellent. But a whole movie in that timeframe will have issues - at least at this time. Conversion is getting better every day.

Later in the Warner reel we saw how 3D should be done: LEGENDS OF THE GUARDIANS. I will have more on that later.

I am posting this from McCarran Airport in Vegas and I have to board in a few minutes so will be posting much later as I cross the country.

Here's hoping that somehow something was amiss with the screening here at ShoWest and the movie will come out smelling like roses. Somehow I don't think so. It's a shame because Warners has shown tremendous support to 3D this year and I love them for it. But it has to be done right.

New "Clash of the Titans" TV spot
Mogadishu Braces for Clash of Titans
Southern Somalia's militant giant al-Shabab, the only leading force that is still wielding considerable political, social, and economic clout and the most formidable force that remains an obstacle to Sheikh Sheriff's otiose and corrupt administration, has taken one further attempt to overrun Galgadud region currently controlled by ASWJ-the Sufi-led faction that just finalized an agreement with the TFG. Despite beating the drums of war loudly and pronouncing a declaration of war against al-Shabab and despite the TFG mobilizing its forces for a final onslaught, al-Shabab is seemingly emerging a force to reckon with. Its marvelous application of covert and overt battle operations, its ability to mobilize forces, its meticulous garnering of public support through the use of diplomacy, radio and cyberspace communication, its adroitness at manipulating tribal elders, and its meritorious skill of tendering support to minority clans for the sake of weakening and deracinating powerful tribes that pose threat to its survival, and its undaunted will to survive unparalleled hardships and challenges remain tools yet to be discovered by its avowed enemies inside Somalia's murky political waters.

Al-Shabab has even become skillful at controlling international aid agencies operating in the areas under its control by requiring them to abide by stringent laid out rules and regulations otherwise they risk being kicked out of the country. The recent altercation between the World Food Program (WFP) and al-Shabab where WFP ultimately pulled out of southern Somalia revolved around al-Shabab's demand that WFP buy local Somali farmers produce instead of bringing in expired relief supplies to the country and distributing as a humanitarian gesture to an already famished and displaced war-afflicted persons.

Al-Shabab's refusal to allow WFP run its relief operations has led to massive starvation of residents of ceelasha biyaha and opened a new round of hostilities with a select group of council of elders supported by the hierarchy of Hizb al-Islam who feel al-Shabab is imposing sanctions on their tribal enclaves where majority of their kinsmen or followers reside. The enclave in question-ceelasha biyaha as it is called or the water wells-is roughly a few miles to the north of the town of Afgoi-where the largest concentration of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who escaped the shelling in Mogadishu resides.

So far the said council of elders has issued a decree denouncing the actions of al-Shabab and to that effect are convening an assembly that include the top echelons of Hizb al-Islam who will collectively deliberate on the most effective countermeasures to take. Sooner or later a deadly clash of titans could be expected should al-Shabab continue to stubbornly deny the said IDPs access to WFP's relief supplies.

Ironically, many Somalis, presidential observers, and political analysts are bewildered and dumbfounded at President Sharif's peripatetic itinerary. His travel plans bring into play a passion for endless merrymaking and craving for leisure travel, red carpet receptions and deafening twenty-one gun salutes, all-you-can-eat buffets set around intricately and articulately designed manicured lawns, and accommodation at five-star hotels with continental breakfast to share with an inflated procrastinating entourage lacking guided protocols and principles.

To make matters worse, the absence of accountability and national security and the absconding of duty by those who took the oath of allegiance to the constitution have made the current Transitional Federal Government headed by Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed wallow in pathetic corruption and remain absorbed in indeterminate situation.

Shocking revelations of embezzlement and mismanagement of donor funds, political bickering and the higgledy-piggledy nature of its bloated parliament, the exodus of highly-priced, newly-trained, and tribally-inclined troops switching allegiance then joining jihadi camps, and the tiptoeing of the colony of political chameleons hiding in its midst seem not to be signaling its ultimate salvation but its timely and imminent death.

Sam Worthington Follows Up "Avatar" with CLASH OF THE TITANS
posted by Azrael Coladilla |

One blockbuster deserves another. That's what Sam Worthington is aiming for as he follows up "Avatar" with Warner Bros.' new action adventure epic "Clash of the Titans."

Worthington plays Perseus who is pitted against the full array of Greek gods and goddesses, the earth-shattering forces at their fingertips, and all the fierce and mysterious creatures and monsters they control. In the film, Perseus is laying claim to his own destiny. But the vengeful gods will not let go of their power so easily. (more below)

Zeus, King of the Gods, (played by Liam Neeson) incurs the wrath of Perseus-his half-human son-after the god has destroyed the human family that raised him. "When Zeus kills his family, this becomes like a revenge movie," says Worthington . "He wants to kill anyone who hurt his family, like any of us would in that situation. And he's a bit like a boisterous teenager. Along the way, he grows up and realizes what a better kind of revenge can be."

Worthington points out that Perseus-like the characters he played in "Avatar" and "Terminator Salvation"-is struggling to come to grips with who he is and what he ultimately wants to be in the midst of his journey. "It is that type of duality that intrigues me with this kind of character," he says. "In movies like this, they are all taking on a bigger bully and that, to me, is a great message. We should stand up to people who want to take us down."

Director Louis Leterrier was likewise drawn to the film's classic theme of a reluctant hero on a quest to accomplish the impossible. "It is as though every movie I have made is about an anti-hero, a guy who doesn't want to be a hero," says the director. "This guy doesn't accept his destiny and who he really is. He fights it. The gods are selfish and egotistical, using human beings as their playthings. It's no wonder that mankind wants to revolt. It becomes a truly epic struggle, with iconic creatures, heroes and amazing actions sequences."

Producer Basil Iwanyk adds, "The gods have been the rulers and leaders of the world up to this point and humans, while they are entertaining for the gods, are scrabby and can't be left to fend for themselves. Yet now we have it that men, led by Perseus, have said, 'Hold on a second! We could determine our own destiny, be it good or bad. We could figure things out ourselves. We can't just be subject to the gods' precociousness.' There is a feeling of anti-authority and rebelliousness. We see that strongly with the Perseus character. It is subtext. You feel that this movie is about youthful anger and revolt."

Producer Kevin De La Noy concludes that Perseus's physical odyssey in the film mirrors his own internal struggle, "Perseus is raised as a man by his human father, who raises him as a fisherman. But eventually he learns that he is the son of a god, Zeus. Perseus is a demigod, and the push and pull throughout the course of the story is whether he should embrace his godliness or be a man. He wants to be man. He hates the gods."

Opening soon across the Philippines in regular format and Digital 3D, "Clash of the Titans" will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Clash of the Titans
The Malaysian Golf Association ("MGA"), being the National Sports Association and the Governing Body for the sport of golf in Malaysia, is indeed extremely concerned with the unsubstantiated statements and views made by third parties with regards to the sanctioning of the US$6 million CIMB Asia Pacific Golf Classic and the registration of the Professional Golfers Association of Malaysia ("PGA") and wishes to reiterate our stance:

1. The objects clauses of the Constitution & By-Laws ("the Rules") of MGA clearly and unequivocally tasks MGA to encourage and promote the pursuit of the game of golf in Malaysia, to promote an annual Amateur Championship, the Malaysian Open Golf Championship for professional and other Championships meetings. MGA's object clauses do not in any way distinguish the sport that is played by amateurs or professionals.

2. MGA's object clauses further mandate it to ensure that the sport of golf played in Malaysia conforms with the rules of golf as prescribed for the time being by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews.

3. MGA's constitution was approved by the Sports Commissioner's Office and it is clear therefore from the Rules that it is MGA's inherent constitutional right, to govern, supervise, manage and oversee the development of the sport of golf, notwithstanding the fact that the sport of golf may be played by Boys, Girls, Men, Ladies and Seniors.

4. The same rules of golf apply to all regardless of whether the sport of golf is played by individuals who are amateurs of if amateurs have moved on to achieve professional status. Championship meetings held in Malaysia cater for golfers who are amateurs or for those who have attained professional status. Examples of such Championship meetings include the Iskandar Johor Open, the Negeri Sembilan Masters, Terengganu Masters, Mercedes Benz Malaysian Masters & the Selangor Masters.

5. Over and above all Championship meets hosted and undertaken by our Affiliates (Golf Clubs) are sanctioned by MGA. In promoting these Championship meetings, MGA encourages third parties to promote and or host such events in Malaysia with the view to provide local golfers opportunities to enhance their skills and for local professionals an additional means to earn a livelihood.

6. MGA is a non-profit entity, wherein its members do not profit neither enrich themselves unlike some other sports entities that cater for the specific needs of its members and or their players. The proposed registration of PGA is a step in the right direction, solely and exclusively tasked with managing, developing and sustaining its members' welfare and livelihood.

7. Herein lay the material difference between MGA's onerous obligations in the governance of golf in Malaysia and to that of PGA. PGA is no more than a private entity set out to cater for the specific interest of its members only. It cannot therefore be hardly true to suggest that it represents golf in Malaysia.

8. Be that as it may, it cannot be perceived that there shall exist two governing bodies nor two sanctioning entities one that of MGA and the other that of PGA. The word "Sanction" has been so misplaced and misinterpreted by various parties in the past and MGA reckons that this "uncertainty" needs to be put to rest once and for all.

9. Datuk Thomas Lee should have known best as a former president of MGA, who during his tenure of presidency, had championed and advocated that the right of sanction shall remain within the exclusive domain and jurisdiction of MGA. To blow hot and cold at this late stage when the defunct MPGA is in shambles does not augur well for the growth and development of golfers who have turned professional.

10. A recent and apparent example of a potential 'hiccup" that may be destined to crystallize when third parties undermine existing sanction procedures set out by MGA, can be seen in the recent announcement of the hosting of a Championship meeting in the name and style of "CIMB Asia Pacific Golf Classic" scheduled for to be held at the Mines Resort & Golf Club on October 28th to 31st 2010. It is interesting to note that the Iskandar Johor Open, a regular scheduled and premier Championship meet of which MGA has sanctioned in the past, is also scheduled for the same weekend.

11. The clash of dates has risen for want on the part of the Event Manager/Promoter for not seeking sanction from MGA. This blatant disregard to adhere to fundamental compliance requirements is yet another example when the development and supervision of the sport of golf can be further jeopardized and compromised if unchecked. As third parties have vested commercial interest in hosting/promoting these meets, the conflict of interest issue is real and apparent.

12. If the sport of golf in Malaysia has to develop in an orderly fashion and manner then this "bickering" and unethical practices by parties who have little or no understanding of the issues on hand must cease immediately. MGA has of recent times, charted new initiatives to cater for the many stakeholders and partners involved in the holistic development of the sport of golf. There is sufficient 'room' for all, who have a genuine vision, desire and commitment to embrace good governance and to take the sport of golf to the next level. Anything less is not acceptable.

Slick Rick - Facebook Freestyle

I mean, it's cool that Slick Rick is dropping freestyles on there and shit, but Facebook is still the most ghastly creation to hit the internet since the picture of that porn star with the prolapsed colon. It scares me that some of the most psychotic, feral kids I went to school with are now frequenting an online social networking site, and the only thing more soul-destroying than reading banal updates by people you once respected, is being subjected to other people's abhorrent conversations about Facebook on public transport or in supermarket queues.

Not like the days of Myspace. Good ol' Myspace, which was the only site on the 'net a gentleman could find a naive girl up for relatively strings-free sex AND old hardcore bands who were willing to share their rare and/or unreleased recordings with you in under 10 clicks of a mouse. But was sex with bipolar middle class girls into drum & bass and having Mike Neider hook up a copy of the M.A.D demo worth being bombarded by fat, tattoed Goff munters pestering you with their gruesome burlesque pictures? You decide.

Be warned : while these pictures aren't pornographic, they're not exactly worksafe either, and nausea may occur if you've eaten in the past couple of hours :

Clash Of Titans on April 2
Sam Worthington-starrer Clash Of Titans is all set to hit the screens on April 2. In India, it will be released in English, Telugu and Tamil versions. As is well-known, 3-D version is also to be out.

Based on the myth of Perseus, it draws from a powerful Greek mythological character. While Sam plays Perseus, Liam Neeson plays Zeus. Produced by Warner Bros., the film is directed by Louis Letterier.

Its visual extravaganza has already caught the attention of millions of cinegoers across the world. Of course, a video game, that has been in the offing, will be out on the film's release date too.

Let's see if the film scorches the BO this summer, after 2012 and Avatar spelt huge luck!
